Oon nyt pitemmän tauon pitänyt blogin kirjottelusta, vlogeja oon vaan pukannut ulos! Nyt olisi sopivasti aikaa tehdä jonkunlainen postaus, enkä ole tälläistä faktapostausta kenenkään blogista löytänyt.

En täällä ole siis kauaa vielä aikaa viettänyt, mutta päällimmäiset jutut voin aivan hyvin tänne kirjata! Aloittakaamme!

I've had a longer break now from blogging, just posted few VLOGS out! Right now I feel like doing some kind of a post, and haven't seen a post like this in other blogs.

I've only been here for a short period of time, but I already can tell some facts about exchange life for sure! Let's get started!


1) Olet päivän jälkeen paljon aikaisemmin väsynyt kuin kotimaassasi. / You get tired much earlier than in your home country.

- Tämä johtuu suurimmaksi osaksi siitä, että joudut koko päivän ajan keskittymään ymmärtääksesi vierasta kieltä. Olin ensimmäisen viikon aikana lähes joka ilta yhdeksän pinnassa unen rajamailla.

- You have to concentrate constantly to understand the non-native language. During my first week here, I went to bed around 9pm.

2) Itseään pitää esitellä jatkuvasti. On enemmän kuin mahdollista, että esittelet ENSIMMÄISEN viikon aikana itsesi 150 kertaa. Olen täällä siis Latte ilman L:ää. / You have to introduce yourself constantly. It's more than possible, that you introduce yourself 150 times during the first week. " Latte without the L. "

- Olet uusi kaupungissa, uusi rotaryklubissa, ja monia kiinnostaa tekemisesi. Näin ollen kädenpuristuksia ja omituisia halauksia tulee enemmän kuin paljon. Itse en ole sitä ainakaan vielä rasittavaksi kokenut, mutta ihmiset ovat erilaisia.

- You're new in town, also new in the rotary club. Therefore most people are interested about the things you do. That leads you into numeral handshakes and awkward hugs. I haven't felt it bothering, but people are different when it comes down to stuff like this.


3) Sinun oletetaan tietävän lähes kaikki maan ja taivaan väliltä kotimaastasi. Oli kyse sitten urheilusta tai politiikasta. / You're expected to know pretty much everything about your home country. Whether its about sports or politics.

- Varsinkin vanhemmat ihmiset voivat kysyä erittäin, erittäin hankalia kysymyksiä. Ajauduin noin viikko takaperin omituiseen tilanteeseen, juurikin aiheeseen liittyen:

Kyseinen rouva oli noin kahdeksankymmentävuotias.

- So Atte, what are the politics like in Finland?

....

- Ummmm... Different!

- Especially elderly people can ask you very, very hard questions. A week ago I had an awkward conversation with a lady in her early 80s:

- Ummmm.... Different!


4) Tulee varmasti hetkiä, kun et kuule tai ymmärrä jotakin mitä sinulle sanotaan./ There will be moments, when you can't hear and/or understand what someone says to you.

 Älä vastaa "YES" kaikkeen mitä sinulta kysytään. Pyydä mieluummin kohteliaasti henkilöä toistamaan lause. Muuten voit ajautua omituisiin tilanteisiin. En tähän kovin paljoa pysty samaistumaan, koska suurimman osan asioista ymmärrän, mutta jos olet menossa paikkaan, jonka kieltä et oikein vielä osaa, kannattaa tähän varautua.  Itsellä oli noin 50% mahdollisuus päästä ranskankieliseen paikkaan.

 Don't answer " YES " every time. Rather ask politely the person to repeat what he said. Otherwise you could find yourself in really awkward situations. I cannot speak for myself on this one, because I like english and understand it fairly well. But if you're leaving to a place, where the language is not that easy for you, prepare yourself. I had a 50% chance going to place where the native language is french.

5) Älä anna kenenkään kertoa, miten vaihtovuosi pitäisi viettää. 

/ Don't let anyone tell you, how you SHOULD spend your year abroad. This is YOUR year. Mind pattern 

-Tämä on SINUN vuotesi. Ajatusmalli on aivan sama kuin menestyneillä urheilijoilla. Jokainen ura on luotu OMALLA tavalla, eikä muita mukaillen. Tekemällä asioita joita rakastat, saat vuodesta uniikin tekemällä uusien juttujen lisäksi asioita joita rakastat.

-This is YOUR year. Mind pattern is the same as it is on successful athletes. Every single career is unique, not anyone else's. Do the new things, but doing also the things you love, you guarantee a successfull and an amazing year abroad.
