Final day in Finland

Neljäs elokuuta. Se päivä on koittanut, viimeinen päivä suomessa. Muistan kun vastikään sain lumisena iltana puhelimeeni soiton, että sinut on valittu Rotaryn vaihto-oppilasohjelmaan. Muistan surrealistiset tunteet ja äkillisen innostuksen. Ja nyt olen tässä, lähdössä huomenna vuodeksi pois. Viiden vuoden odotus huipentuu koneen noustessa ilmaan maanantaina.

Mietin kuluneen viikon ajan, että miten ihmeessä vietän viimeiset päiväni. Kesä oli kuitenkin mennyt uskomattoman nopeasti. Alkuviikko meni perheen parissa kesämökillä, ja kun vihdoin keskiviikkona ajoimme kotiin, sain viestin, joka nosti hymyn suupieliin saman tien - huikeat kaverini järjestäisivät torstaina läksiäisjuhlat, tarjoten kaiken!

Onko oikeasti parempaa tapaa jättää rakas kotimaa?

Täysi talo mukavia ihmisiä kertoen kuinka paljon minusta välittävät ja kannustavat huikeaan vuoteen. Viimeisetkin epäröinnin rippeet katosivat - tajusin kuinka onnekas olen. 

Onnekas, kun ympärilläni on minusta välittäviä ihmisiä.

Onnekas, että juuri minut valittiin vaihto-oppilasohjelmaan.

Kiitollinen siitä, että perheeni rakastaa minua niin paljon, että antavat minulle mahdollisuuden toteuttaa omia unelmiani. En voi ehkä koskaan kiittää siitä tarpeeksi, mutta olen ikuisesti kiitollinen siitä.

Monen kuukauden odotus on lopussa, kaiken paperisodan ja järjestelyn jälkeen. Olen niin valmis kuin olla voi, enkä malta oottaa ensiaskeleitani tulevassa kotimaassani, Kanadassa.

Loppuun haluan kirjoittaa sanat, jotka eräs ystäväni sanoi minulle läksiäisillan aikana. Tämä kertoo paljon siitä kuinka uskomattomia ihmisiä ympärilläni on ja tulee olemaan.

" Kaikista kavereista ketä tunnen, olet ainoa joka uskaltaa tehdä jotakin tälläistä. Vietä uskomaton vuosi ja pidä hauskaa, tämä ilta on sinua varten! "

Fourth of August. The day is here, last day in Finland. I remember when I got a phone call during a snowy evening last winter, saying that you've been selected to the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. I still remember the surrealistic feelings I had about the upcoming year. And now I'm here, ready to leave tomorrow for an entire year. Five years of waiting comes down to monday when the plane takes off.

During the last week, I was wondering how should I spend the last week in here. After all, summer has gone away so quickly. Monday to Wednesday I spent with my family in our summer cottage, and finally on Wednesday when I got home, I got a message that made me smile rest of the day - my friends were gonna have a goodbye party for me on Thursday!

Could there be a better way to leave your home country?

A house full of nice people telling me how much they care about me and giving the greatest advice for the next year. Even the slightest bits of hesitative feelings got out of me in an instinct - I realised how lucky I am.

Lucky to have people caring for me.
Lucky that from all the people avaivable, they chose me for the RYE program.
Grateful that my family loves me so much that they're willing to give me the chance to fullfill my own personal dreams. I may never be able to thank enough for it, but I will be forever grateful.

Many months of waiting has come to an end, after hundreds of hours of warfare with all of the needed documents and preparation. I'm as ready as I can be, and can't wait to take my first steps in my next homecountry, Canada!

In the end, I want to write down the words, that mean the world to me. This all came out from a friend of mine who was a major part of making the awesome goodbye party possible.

" Of all the friends I have, you're the only one, that has the courage to do something like this. I hope that you have an amazing year in and make the most out of your year, this night is for you! "

I want to thank everyone for the amazing night, I'm gonna miss you guys!
